I know what they did
I know what I had to do
I had no food
I had no clothes
There was no one there to take care of me or give me a rose

I’ve been beaten
I’ve been bruised
I had no future to make my own kind of rules

I had kids
I had a husband
But they separated us

I worked as a slave 
They worked as masters
They called us names 
They called us colored 
But the only thing that matters is that we’re the others
