"An Old Song"

An old song comes on the radio while I drive.
I take a moment and quietly pause.
The memories begin to flow back,
The emotions overwhelm me,
Tears begin to swell as the song hits a soft spot in me,
I am consumed in the memory and it takes me back.
Back to a time of laughing children and no sadness,
My dad picks me up and swings me onto his shoulders.
The sun shines brightly in my eyes,
A bit of youth rises in my heart.
For a moment my heart is whole,
As the song comes to an end, I am brought to reality.
The hole in my heart is back.
My wrinkled hands reach up to wipe tears from my eyes.
Oh, what an old song can do.
