"A Sliver of Orange"
Ethan
Immanuel Lutheran Day School
St. Louis County, MO
In the shed
I see a sliver of orange
Reach for it
Take it out
And realize where it is from
Two small, orange basketballs
On each end of a rubber tube
In it I see Polly
And think of her from my heart
Sleek black fur
Shining eyes
I threw the orange toy to her outside
She chased and gave it back
But one day she had to leave
I asked my dad, “But why?”
He said that she would learn to hunt with us
Then she would come home
But one day
My uncle called
He could not find her
I never saw her again
The toy was so little
It’s hard to believe
That small sliver of orange
Could bring back so much love
