If you listen
very closely at night,
you can hear a coyote howling
under the bright moonlight
at midnight.
If you listen
to a coyote at night,
you can hear him growling,
trying to fight
at midnight.
If you listen
you just might make it
to the next sunlight
before, once again,
it is midnight.
If you don’t listen,
you might hear an ambulance
coming for you,
if a coyote gets you
at midnight.
Listen carefully,
a coyote is sneaky at night.
Open those ears
to calm your fears
at midnight.
