I never really got to know you,
But I always will love you.
When we met, you could never talk.
I never even saw you walk,
But you were always there.

When we went to your house, I would always say, “Hi.”
You couldn’t answer; I wanted to cry.
I’ve seen pictures of me and you looking so happy.
But then I was just a baby.
We were robbed by disease.

They say dementia stole you away
Even though I asked for miracles each time I prayed.
My hope is we will soon be connected.
For now my heart feels dissected.
Aching tears continue to flow.

RIP Grandpa
