The feeling of power as it surges
The momentary suspense
As horse to its rider merges
And time seems to stop, condense
The impact as hooves meet ground
The check of balance and weight
And again the world has sound
This is destined to be their fate
The smell of fragrant green pines
The dark brown of their trunks
As polished leather shines
And ahead a row of jumps
The final exertion of strength
The last bend in the course
As they gallop along the last length
An ode to the jumping horse.
