i wander into the chaos
a chill runs up my spine

they scream and yell and fight
but can’t hear me
even though i try with all my might

a tear runs down my face like a raindrop in a storm
the emotions i want to express still do not form

the words i speak evaporate
into the surrounding air

i cannot run i cannot hide
there’s nowhere else to look for pride

the ocean in a hurricane
is more calm than all this pain
