"The Fading Lights"

As each minute passed
The light was fading
She held his old hand
And kept him gazing

She held his hand
As he said goodbye
To all of his family
With the light in his eyes

His eyes finally shut
The lights burnt away
And after a while
The monitor didn’t sway

It took some weeks after
To fill in the hole
In all of their hearts
And it was a great toll

It’s hard to imagine
When you’re in her place
But life does go on
At a steady pace

Someday we all
Will be the man in the bed
So be like him then
And love life before death
